Spiderwire - The Spider brand originated in 1994 with Safariland, a California company which produced law enforcement equipment. While working with high-tech synthetics to produce bulletproof vests, Neale Perkins and Scott O'Brien discovered that the gel-spun polyethylene fibers used in the vests were ideal for a number of applications, including the creation of super-strong fishing line. Various constructions were researched and tested, ultimately resulting in SpiderWire®, the strongest, thinnest, most sensitive fishing line ever produced.
